Tawfik Abu Wael was born and raised in Umm al-Fahm and studied film at Tel Aviv University.

His first full length film, "Thirst" (2004), was very successful. The movie was featured in the Cannes Film Festival and was awarded the International Critics' Prize and the Jerusalem Film Festival Volgin Award. His second film, "Thanator - Last Days in Jerusalem" (2014) has also been featured in many international film festivals. Tawfik's Wikipedia.
